in need of a friend with benefits?  meet kale.  kale

in my opinion, kale should be the staple in any well-balanced diet, considering all of its benefits. kale is infused with antioxidants and iron, and numerous of other nutrients. this leafy green vegetable reduces inflammation, treats sun damage, and promotes elasticity in the hair. each time i make a smoothie, i like to add kale to my mixture. image kale can have a slight bitter taste, but it seems to pair well with apples and bananas.  in my salad, i’ve pretty much replaced romaine with kale leaves as my primary vegetable in my salad.  kale has now made its way into the beauty world. here are some kale infused products that are excellent for your hair, skin and nails!

kale is loaded with vitamins a, c and k, lutein, iron, and antioxidants. vitamin k in kale helps to reduce the dark circles under your eyes and ‘tightens’ your skin.  this can also aid in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. vitamin a and antioxidants repair skin tissue while also preventing free-radical damage. by using kale as apart of your beauty regimen can be beneficial for detoxification.  you can apply kale topically through serums and creams, such as eminence organics citrus and kale potent c+e serum ($110, eminenstore.com) and nourish revital-eyes anti-aging eye cream ($30, nourishskinrange.com).  However, if you would like to take the less expensive route, try freezing a few kale leaves and then placing a leaf under each eye for 10 minutes!   kale helps to combat signs of aging as well as instantly hydrate and brighten the skin.

for an easy diy kale mask get…… a bundle of organic kale; 1 tbsp. of honey; 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice; 1 tbsp. of water.  place in a blender to mix ingredients together.  apply to your face and neck area.  leave on for 10-15 minutes.

kale has both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which keeps the hair and scalp moisturized. the fatty acids also reduce dandruff and alleviate a flaky scalp and may even speed up hair growth.  in my most recent journey to finding a hair care set that would help with my oil scalp without stripping all of the natural oils from it, i stumbled upon the body deli’s living hair set, which retails for $47.  this company is known for integrating raw and organic super fruits and vegetables to deliver a higher potency that will give real results.  most of their line is formulated with kale juice, making each product all the more superior than their counterparts.

nails

imagebeing that hair and nails are both made out of keratin, it’s no wonder that kale has made its way to the nail side, as well!  being that i’m forever advertising my business, i’m constantly wearing nail lacquer (polish).  As a result, my nails have a tendency to be soft and easy to peel.  but, lo and behold the nail gods have heard my cry.  Nails Inc. recently launched NailKale.  this polish is a limited-edition that’s infused with kale extract. kale has very high levels of vitamins a, c and k, the formula stimulates keratin production, which in turn,  results in longer, stronger, and better-hydrated nails. after purchasing my colors from sephora, i could not wait to get home to try them out.  the base coat is nothing like any other nail strengthener.  the application goes on nicely and after two coats my nails instantly felt solid.  i highly recommend this for all of my nail biters and those of you transitioning from artificial nail enhancements back to natural nails.  so as you can see, this was just an abbreviated list of benefits that kale has to offer.  kale is definitely more beneficial when eaten, and when added in with your skin care regimen, you will see quicker results.  i challenge you to consuming more kale in your diet along with trying out one of the products i mentioned.  let’s see some results…..the healthy way!
